Zero Carb Bacon Bun Burger
If you’re like me, you’ve had more than your share of bacon burgers. The problem is, nine times out of ten the actual amount of bacon on the burger is somewhat lacking.
In an effort to remedy the situation, I’ve developed the ultimate bacon burger, a ground chuck patty grilled to perfection then sandwiched between… A BACON BUN!
Made from approximately 3 pounds of bacon that has been shaped in to two 4-4.5 inch wide disks, the bun is cooked on the grill* over medium heat until most of the fat has been rendered out and the “bun” is nicely crisped (approximately 30 minutes). *Note: I placed the bacon disks in a cake pan that was then placed on to a preheated pizza stone)
Once the bun has completely cooked, simply remove both sections from the fat and place it on a triple layer of paper towels to drain and cool while you prepare the burger.
For the burger, I used 4 oz. of ground chuck and seasoned it liberally with Kosher salt and pepper. Place the burger on the pre-heated grill and cook for 5-6 minutes per side for medium (140-150 degrees).
Remove the burger from the grill, place it on the bottom half of the bacon bun, add any condiments you like, and then top with the remaining half of the bacon bun.
After that it’s time for pure bacon burger bliss! And the best part about this burger (besides the abundance of bacon)? Zero carbs and gluten free!!!!
